We are more the same than different.

Farrah Marisa is an advocate for prison reform and has coached hundreds of men and women in the California State Prison System, both while incarcerated and throughout their Re-entry process.

She is passionate about Restorative Justice and has been trained to lead Victim Offender Dialogues (also known more respectfully as Restorative Dialogues - how we label people matters) inside prisons to bridge the healing between survivors and the person who committed the crime.

RESTORATIVE JUSTICE

An approach that broadens the focus from punishment as justice to a system that creates healing and accountability by repairing harms and relationships. In practice, restorative justice brings together survivors, responsible parties, and community members to address harms, identify needs, obligations, and the underlying causes of crime and conflict.

Restorative Justice provides opportunities for all parties to share their experiences and unique journey, provide healing to survivors, restore responsible parties to their families and communities, and prevent future harms to interpersonal relationships and communities. While repair may not always be possible, all parties and the community can come together to transform and heal the harm and suffering that comes from violence.

The current system of justice asks, What law was broken? Who broke it and How can we punish them?

Restorative Justice asks a very different set of questions. What happened and What needs to happen now? This is done by bringing people together to help answer these questions. We do this directly with people who have experienced harm, both as survivors and those who are incarcerated. Why, because hurt people hurt people. From here we explore the trans-generational trauma that gave rise to where we are today.
